Saar Koren – Kibbutz Geva 2017

“Looking back at the whole Garin Tzabar process, I can say that it’s helped me get ready for life in Israel, prepared me for the army, and also helped me to get the position I wanted. Most importantly, it’s provided me with friends and family for life.”

My name is Saar Koren. I was born in Israel and I moved to California when I was 11. In my senior year of high school, I still wasn’t sure what I wanted to do after high school but  I wanted to know all of my options, and one of them was moving back to Israel, so I went exploring and decided to go attend the first Garin Tzabar seminar. During the seminar, I fell in love with the people there and got really excited about moving back to Israel to join the IDF as a lone soldier with Garin Tzabar.

I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do in the army, but I really hoped that I could get a position that would allow me to do something with my passion for computers. Getting this kind of position was very difficult for regular Israeli and much harder for someone who joins the IDF as a lone soldier but Garin Tzabar helped me get it, which would have been impossible to do on my own.

Now that I’m in my service, I couldn’t be any happier. Looking back at the whole Garin Tzabar process, I can say that it’s helped me get ready for life in Israel, prepared me for the army, and also helped me to get the position I wanted. Most importantly, it’s provided me with friends and family for life.
