Max Bernstein Kibbutz Alumim 2013
29th August 2019"I knew that making Aliyah with a group of people my age who shared similar ideals and goals would help me solidify my identity and strengthen my connection with Israel. "
I grew up with a strong Jewish Identity but in a predominantly non-Jewish area. I wanted to connect more to my history and roots, and that’s why I chose to Make Aliyah and Join Garin Tzabar as a lone soldier. I knew that making Aliyah with a group of people my age who shared similar ideals and goals would help me solidify my identity and strengthen my connection with Israel.
This couldn’t have been more true, as I found myself with an amazing group of people on a kibbutz in the Negev called Alumim.
I drafted in 2013 to the 890th Paratroopers Brigade and served as an Elite Sharpshooter in an urban combat platoon. During my two-year service I had many life-changing experiences, including taking part in Operation Protective Edge and serving in almost every other area in Israel.
